About the event:

I am pleased to welcome Annemarie to Camversation. She is someone who has been widely requested by members of the community and we look forward to sharing her passion with you all!

About the talk;

During this inspirational talk Annemarie will take you along her creative life. She will share with you, based on her work, the path she has traveled so far and what the important moments, the so-called milestones, were during that journey.

Annemarie will discuss the importance of reflection and looking back on your work. Commenting on how  seemingly insignificant and useless moments in your creative life have shaped your photographs now, leading to where you are in your photography today. Of course, she will give you tips on how to further explore this. Last (but certainly not least!) she will share with you what to do when you are looking for more creativity, based on her experience during the past 20+ years of her career.

About Annemarie

"Look as slowly as you can”

Annemarie Hoogwoud (1962), born and raised in Amsterdam, lives and works in the north of the country, in Friesland. She is 15 years old when her neighbour takes her into his world of landscape photography. Since then, the camera has not left her life.

After completing her education at the Dutch Fotovakschool in Apeldoorn in the late 1990s, she followed various in-depth courses in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. In those early years she is mainly concerned with photographing the landscape. Gradually that started to change, using the landscape as a means of expressing how she looks and feels, in a more abstract way.

Annemarie Hoogwoud sees that we live in such a hectic and fast-paced world that we hardly take the time to observe and absorb anything properly. We are already busy with the next thing without paying attention to our surroundings.

With her camera Annemarie takes the time to look differently, be able to see more and thus connect with the landscape. Thanks to this process she creates an abstraction from reality. Because only there you feel the simplicity, the layering and wonder that are the essence of her work.

Walking the path of slowness. What happens when we take as much time as possible to observe what unfolds in front of us? By allowing slowness, we live fully in the present, which in essence is the only time we have.

Slowness lets your mind wander, makes you curious and unveils what you didn't see before. Slowing down gives space to our imagination.

After all, life is not what we live, it's what we imagine we are living.

And for that, it helps to look as slowly as you can.

In 2018 Annemarie published her book The Quest – a photographic journey based on the novel Night train to Lisbon (in English). In June 2023 follows her second book Time vanishes from the landscape, a collaboration with a writer (in Dutch).

Annemarie creates independent work, works on assignment, gives artist talk, workshops and exhibitions in her own country and abroad.
