About the event:
It is always a real pleasure to welcome Tony Worobiec back to Camversation. As many of you know, Tony's events are always popular, not just because of his stunning imagery, but because of his background in Fine Art and teaching. He has a wonderful ability to explain why an image works, not just how it was taken.
In this brand new presentation, Tony tackles a genre that offers endless creative freedom: Abstracts. It's something which many of us in the community really enjoy seeing great examples of!
While the term abstract often suggests something completely non-representational, Tony takes a fascinating approach. He explores how we can view the world objectively, reducing subjects down to their core visual elements such as line, colour, tone, pattern, shape and texture. By doing this, we can disassociate from the obvious reality of a scene and create something unique.
Tony will be sharing easily achieved techniques to guide your eye from the real to the abstract, looking at everything from landscapes and moving water to the textures of distressed wood, ice and peeling paint.
Tony will look at:
The Core Elements: How to train your eye to spot line, colour, tone, pattern, shape and texture in everyday scenes.
Subject Selection: Finding abstract potential in unlikely places, from grand architecture to rusting metal and ice formations.
Technique: Practical ways to disassociate from reality to create art focused imagery.
Composition: How to apply Fine Art principles to your photography to create stronger and more compelling images.
About Tony:
Tony Worobiec is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and studied Fine Art at The University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He spent 18 years as head of a large design faculty and this background in teaching shines through in every talk he gives.
He is the author of 18 books including The Landscape Photographer's Bible and Ghosts in the Wilderness and his work has been exhibited at The Barbican Gallery in London, The Fox Talbot Museum and internationally. Tony is a true master of his craft, bridging the gap between traditional photography and contemporary art.
From Mark: We usually see a great turnout for Tony's talks, and for good reason. He is one of those presenters who does not just show you pictures; he changes the way you look at the world. With his background in painting and fine art, he brings a perspective that is incredibly valuable for us as photographers. If you want to start seeing pictures in places you usually walk past, you really do not want to miss this one!
