About the event:

It is a real honour for Stan to present to Camversation. I have enjoyed his work for a long time and he has been requested for many years.

This single purchase allows access to two sessions. They cannot be purchased individually.

Part 1: Multi- exposure architectural abstracts (24th November, 2025)

This would start with a series of in-camera double or triple exposures, and show how they can be processed to produce a final semi-abstract image. The processing would include:

  • Inversion of images to produce negative copies.

  • Changing of colours using hue/saturation.

  • Producing layers.

  • Experimenting with blending modes to get an attractive result.

  • Adding texture layers

  • Using layer masks to remove texture from key parts of the image.

  • Adding text/writing/maps to add interest.

Part 2: Working with self-created backgrounds (22nd December, 2025)

This would show how to create your own backgrounds for lay-flat still life images, and would include:

  • What to use as a basis (e.g. plywood, MDF, cardboard).

  • What to add to give interest (e.g. muslin, paper, texture paste, crackle paste, wallpaper, printed text).

  • How to assemble things.

  • How to photograph things,

  • How to process your final image. (Adding texture, text, vignettes, extra image details, improving contrast, using layer masks, use of “Orton Effect”).

About Stan:

I describe myself as a creative digital photographer.  When I took early retirement a few years ago, I returned to university to study Art History, and I spent three years on that. Nowadays I enjoy applying my interest in modern art to my photographic work which has been ongoing since childhood.

I was born in Teddington in Middlesex and I spent my childhood days in West London. I went to University in St Andrews in Scotland, and then stayed on in Scotland, at first teaching Biology in schools. Latterly though I returned to the University of St Andrews as Associate Director of Admissions and as Director of the Access Centre. I took early retirement in 2005.

This talk will be recorded and made available for four weeks after the event

Stan's previous presentations are available on demand. They are utterly excellent:
