About the event:
Amanda has been part of Camversation for years and I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing her work. In this series, she's going to share with us her approaches to making connections between photography and feelings/emotions which I know is something many of us love!
ICM and Photoshop as Emotional Tools to bring your inner experience to life.
About the series:
26th January, 2026: Session 1: ICM As a Connection to The World
In this first session, we’ll dive into the embodied connection between ourselves and the world, created through intentional camera movement (ICM). Then, we’ll carry that connection into post-production using Photoshop, focusing on clarity and blur — how to make creative choices, and apply techniques that bring your experience of the moment and place to life.
23rd February, 2026: Session 2: Impressionism – Clarity in the Blur
In this second session, we’ll explore how our minds and experiences connect with the blur of impressionism, expressionism, and sharp images. Then we’ll jump into Photoshop and focus on texture — making creative, artistic choices that re-create and evoke the sensations you felt in the moment, and enhancing your image in a way that truly reflects your personal experience and connection to that time and place.
30th March, 2026: Session 3: Light, Shadow, and Glow
In the third session, we’ll dive into the power of light and shadow in impressionist, expressive, and ICM images, considering mood, emotion, and story. In Photoshop, I’ll show you how to create rather than correct — playing with light and colour to make your images glow... we’ll even create magical glow from absolutely nothing but your imagination
From Amanda:
I began my photography journey when studying for a master’s in the anthropology of human–animal and environmental interactions, using the camera to document my research. Later, during a period of illness, I pulled the camera back out of the cupboard—initially as a distraction—and began to explore how it could become my paintbrush using creative techniques.
I realised I could explore the same interactions visually, not as documents, but as feelings, emotions and expressions across place and time. I dived deeper, immersing myself in a creative world I’d never imagined accessible to someone who considered herself ‘non-arty.’
I shoot not for genre but for interactions and connections between us and the world. In Photoshop, I explore and create using the sensations and feelings of the time and place in the image, working to reignite what the camera can’t always capture: energy, mood, the feel of the wind on your cheeks or the warm sunshine on your back.
As The Photographic Artisan, I love to share my passion for ICM, multiple exposures and photoshop (and any new photographic creativity I can think of) helping others create not just images, but felt experiences.
This talk will be recorded and made available for four weeks after the final event.
