Camversation Explore: Brompton October 2026

A relaxed half day of photography and friendship at one of London's most remarkable Victorian places. I am so pleased to announce a Camversation meet-up at Brompton Cemetery in London this October.

A word on what this one is, because it is a little different from our usual Explore days. On an Explore we follow a planned route with photography stops along the way. This is not that. This is a meeting. We will come together at the gate, and then we will wander round on our own. Nothing is led and nothing is planned in the same way. It is simply a wonderful opportunity to spend time with like-minded friends in a new location, and the ticket price reflects that.

Our good friend Polina Plotnikova suggested this one, and she will be there with us. Many of you will know Polina as one of the finest flower and still life photographers in the country, and as someone who has supported just about everything we have ever done.

Brompton Cemetery was built to be walked through. It opened in 1840, and Benjamin Baud gave it the shape of a cathedral with the roof off, a nave of about six hundred metres running from the gate on Old Brompton Road down to a domed chapel, with two long colonnades curving out either side of it in imitation of St Peter's Square in Rome. Beatrix Potter grew up a few minutes from the gate, and among the headstones you will find a Mr Nutkins, a Mr McGregor, a Mr Brock, a Jeremiah Fisher and a Peter Rabbett. Nobody has proved she took the names, and nobody has explained the coincidence either.

What to expect on the day

• A Half Day: This is an 12pm to 4:00 pm event. There is a lovely café at the North Lodge gate on Old Brompton Road which opens in the morning, so do come along early for a coffee if you would like to.

• A Small Group: Brompton is a working cemetery and there will be people there visiting family. Tickets are strictly limited so that we are a handful of photographers rather than a crowd, and we will not be moving about the place in one block.

• No Set Route: There is no itinerary and nobody is leading. We say hello at the gate and then we go our own ways and photograph whatever catches us. Some will pair up, some will happily go off alone, and we will find each other again.

• Relaxed and Informal: These are not photographic marches or formal workshops. Think of it as a gentle wander with like-minded people.

• Supportive Community: While there is no 1-2-1 tuition, you will find that everyone is happy to share a tip or a bit of advice over their shoulder.

• The Social Side: Some of us will find a cup of tea or a pub nearby afterwards for anyone who would like to stay on. Nothing booked, and it is often the best part of the day!

Who can come? These events are very popular and tickets for this one are strictly limited to a small group. While anyone is welcome to register, we do give preference to those who have supported our online workshops and presentations. It is our way of saying thank you for being such an active part of the Camversation family. Once the places have gone, they have gone.

A note on costs: The £10 ticket covers the coordination only. This is not one of our full Explore days with a planned route and the price reflects that. There is nothing to pay at the gate and food, transport and personal expenses are not included.
