About the event:
Have you ever looked at a scene and wondered how to move past a literal record of what is in front of you? How do you inject your own personal feelings, soul, and unique artistry into the frame?
I am absolutely thrilled to welcome the wonderful Rose Atkinson ARPS back to Camversation. When Rose came to us a year ago, her presentation was a huge hit. But she hasn't stood still. Rose has spent the last few months completely rewriting, expanding, and revising this talk specifically for us. It features deeper insights into her processes and a massive collection of fresh, inspiring imagery.
This is a presentation and an illustrative exploration of Rose's work & an intimate, personal journey through the creative techniques Rose uses to find her niche. From the painterly sweep of camera movement to her fascinating work with alternative optics, she will show you how she breaks the rules of traditional photography to create genuine art.
Whether you are completely new to intentional camera movement or simply looking for fresh inspiration to see your own surroundings with new eyes, Rose’s gentle, encouraging style is superb!
What We Will Explore:
Intentional Camera Movement (ICM): How Rose uses painterly swipes and vertical sweeps to turn everyday landscapes into impressionistic pieces.
Multiple Exposures: The art of combining shapes, subjects, and textures within multiple exposures to tell a deeper story.
Creative Editing & Abstraction: A look at how she moves beyond reality in post-processing to focus purely on form, line, colour, and emotion.
Creative Lenses & Analogue Processes: A fascinating look at how alternative optics and historic, analogue processes can radically alter your visual style.
About Rose Atkinson ARPS
Rose was given her first camera at the age of 11, already seeing the world a bit differently (and famously being questioned by her mother for wasting precious film on a coil of old rope!). Over the years, she enjoyed many forms of photography, but the digital age brought the true freedom to express herself without constraints. About 10 years ago, she began experimenting with creative techniques and found her true niche. Her work is a beautiful testament to personal expression and visual storytelling.
A Personal Note from Mark
Rose is one of the most wonderful people you could ever hope to meet in the photography world. She has such a generous spirit and a genuine passion for helping others find their creative voice. Whether she is leading a walkabout, organising a community meet-up (like her fantastic day in Wells last December!), or sharing her beautiful imagery, her warmth always shines through. We are incredibly lucky to have her as part of our Camversation family and I just know you are going to love spending the evening with her.
