Creative Florals From Field To Fine Art with Molly Hollman

We all love taking photos of flowers, but how often do we feel like we haven’t quite captured the soul of the subject? Whether you are battling the wind and rain outdoors or trying to set up a creative still life on your kitchen table, flower photography requires a specific set of skills both behind the camera and in the digital darkroom.

In this special 5-part Camversation series we are doing something a little different! We will be using a hybrid teaching style that has become a real community favourite. You will see Molly in action on location via recordings we made together, watching exactly how she works in the field, before switching to a live editing session to see how she brings those raw files to life. It offers the best of both worlds!

Crucially, we believe the best way to learn is by doing. As the series moves along Molly will be providing a selection of her own images for you to download and edit. This gives you the opportunity to practise the techniques on the same professional files you see on screen, helping you master the processing steps before applying them to your own work.

Schedule (Each session is timed to be circa 60 minutes long)

• Session 1 (March 25th): The Great Outdoors Part 1. We head outside to look at composition, light and managing the elements, followed by a live edit of the images captured.

• Session 2 (April 8th): The Great Outdoors Part 2. Continuing our fieldwork, we dive deeper into creative settings and aperture choices with more live processing techniques.

• Session 3 (April 22nd) & Session 4 (May 6th): The Indoor Studio / Creative Techniques & Lightboxes.. Do not let the weather stop you! We move inside to explore basic still life arrangements, discover the magic of lightbox photography and creative indoor setups by learning how to use light and aperture in a controlled situation to get great flat portraits. We will also review the Edit Challenge where you get to play with Molly's raw files.

• Session 5 (May 18th): The Grand Finale & Showcase. A relaxed and supportive way to end the series where we celebrate the images created during the workshops. We will look at a selection of your work in a friendly and non-competitive environment with Molly offering constructive tips on how to polish your final edits.

Why We Love This:

Molly is quite simply one of the best flower photographers in the UK. But more than that she is a wonderful teacher who explains things in a way that just makes sense.

I am particularly excited about the practical element of this series. Often with online workshops you watch the expert edit and then attempt to replicate it later. By giving you access to Molly’s own starter images you can play and practise alongside the series. It bridges the gap between watching and doing to ensure you finish the series with a great set of skills.
