About the event:

This is a brand new presentation from Paul, who is one of our most highly regarded presenters on Camversation! This time, Paul shares his passion for photographing locally (or within easy reach) and the opportunities this can offer people who are willing to invest the time and effort!

Fear of Flying

Photographing my local area, and within the confines of the UK is far more rewarding than traveling long distances, especially since I don’t particularly enjoy flying. Local landscapes  in particular offer endless opportunities for creativity, especially when revisited through different seasons, weather, and light. Familiarity with my surroundings enables me to notice subtle details and moments that might be missed in unfamiliar places. This connection often leads to more meaningful and personal images. It is also a more sustainable, cost-effective, and emotionally fulfilling way to work.

Biography

Born in East Yorkshire, Paul’s interest in photography started in his teens with a simple 35mm rangefinder camera, gaining a more formal education in photography whilst studying Graphic Design at Art College. His career in Graphic Design spanned some 45 years, running his own design business for the past 35 years. Over the last decade his photography has gained momentum and now devotes most of his time lecturing and running photography workshops. Paul has had numerous exhibitions in the UK and has had articles and images published in many photography magazines. He is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.
