About the event:

Join firm fan favourite Cherry Larcombe as she shares a series of workshops designed to get the very best from your still life photography.

Cherry has designed a 4-part series to outline her key approaches and considerations when she processes her wonderful still life photography, for which she is so well known.

These are outlined below, but are subject to amendment/change ahead of the workshop start.

  • Part 1: Layers and layer masks

    • Imagine you're an artist working with layers of paint on a canvas. You want to selectively reveal or hide parts of the layers beneath without permanently erasing them. That's essentially what layer masks allow you to do digitally in image editing. Cherry does this incredibly well, creating such wonderful images en route.

  • Part 2: Blend modes, opacity and multiple exposure (ME)

    • Blend modes and opacity are powerful tools in image editing that allow you to create a wide range of effects by controlling how layers interact with each other. Opacity determines the transparency of a layer, while blend modes dictate how the colors of a layer combine with the colors of the layers below.

  • Part 3: Inversions

    • Inversion generally refers to flipping/changing the colors of an image, creating a negative effect where light areas become dark and vice versa. It's like looking at a photographic print through a special filter that reverses the tones. This can be achieved in various ways and Cherry uses some of these to great effect!

  • Part 4: Cropping and composition

    • Composition is the art of arranging elements within your frame to create a visually compelling and harmonious image. It's about thoughtfully placing your subject and other elements to guide the viewer's eye, tell a story, and evoke a specific mood or feeling. Cherry will demonstrate her approaches to how she considers various approaches to composition to tell her story.

Each session will be approximately 80-90 minutes long.

As part of this LEARN series, you'll have:

  • Instruction from Cherry Larcombe, a renowned still life photographer, judge and all-round wonderful person!

  • Hands-on practice with real-world example photographs, provided by Cherry.

  • Interactive opportunities for you to share your own work and look at others' work who are part of the series.

  • Flexible viewing options - all of the sessions will be recorded live, so you can watch them at your leisure.

All four events are included in the single £20 course price.
