About the event:

I am  so excited  to have  photographic artist, Kas Stone, to come and speak to the community about her work. When I saw her pictures I knew they would be something the community would enjoy! Kas is frequently asked 'are they pictures or paintings' which is why she calls them 'photographic art' They are her personal interpretation of reality!

About the Talk

With today’s sophisticated cameras and countless resources available for helping us learn how to use them, making beautiful photographs has never been easier. But is “beautiful” enough? In a world where 3.2 billion images are shared on social media every day, what makes your images worth stopping for? Do they tell an interesting story? Do they tug at a viewer’s heartstrings? Can they make people laugh or think or wonder? Have they anything important to say? In short, do they mean anything?

In this presentation, photographic artist Kas Stone challenges you to explore these questions as part of your image-making process, and inspires you to make more meaningful photographs as you discover the answers.

About the Speaker

Kas Stone is a photographic artist based in Nova Scotia, Canada, where she finds meaning in the wild moody landscapes all around her. Kas favours a thoughtful approach that explores these landscapes in the context of broader environmental and human themes. She makes a living selling her fine-art prints and teaching and writing about photography. Her portfolio includes several books and feature articles in Canadian and U.K. magazines.
