Reknowned photographer Rob Stimpson joins to share a presentation close to his heart, on Camversation!

Date & time:
11 Feb 2026, 19:00 – 20:20 GMT
Zoom (link will be emailed ahead of event)
About the event:
Rob Stimpson's photography is beautiful and his approach to supporting and helping others is incredibly accessible and down to Earth. It has been a real pleasure organising this presentation from Rob, who reached out to be part of the Camversation line up!
We have all been there. Standing in front of a spectacular sunrise or a breathtaking landscape and capturing the scene exactly as it is. It is beautiful but is it truly yours? This session is about moving past the standard shot and finding the unique image hidden within the scene.
Rob will share:
Moving Beyond the Norm: How to look past the obvious postcard shot to capture something deeper and more personal.
Developing Your Style: Practical ideas to help you find your own creative voice, rather than just documenting what is in front of you.
The Rules of Creativity: While this is about artistic expression, Rob will guide us through the technical frameworks that make these creative images work.
Unique Composition: How to train your eye to see light, shape and narrative in a completely new way.
From Mark: Rob reached out to share his work with us and I was immediately struck not just by his imagery but by his approach to photography. He is a truly outstanding photographer with a wealth of experience from polar expeditions to travels across the Americas but more importantly, he is a genuinely lovely human being. I think you are going to find his perspective refreshing, inspiring and incredibly helpful for your next adventure with the camera.
This session will begin at 7pm (UK time). Click here for a useful link on how to work out what time this may be in your part of the world: https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/?pl=1&lid=8,14,2643743,5,6,2063523&h=8&hf=1
About Rob:
Rob Stimpson is a celebrated Canadian photographer renowned for his captivating images of the Canadian outdoors and polar regions. His work has garnered international acclaim, earning him numerous awards and a distinguished place in the world of wilderness photography.
Originally from the small town of Hudson, Quebec, Rob Stimpson's passion for the outdoors was ignited at an early age. While he enjoyed photography in his 20s, his professional life initially took a different path. He worked in the pharmaceutical industry until a downsizing offered him an exit package, a pivotal moment that allowed him to pursue photography as a full-time career.
To hone his skills, Rob spent six months in Basel, Switzerland, working as a photographer's assistant. This experience provided him with a solid foundation and a valuable portfolio. Upon returning to Canada, he began seeking assignments and had a significant breakthrough when the National Film Board of Canada purchased his images. This early success opened doors within the tourism industry, leading to work with various Canadian tourism agencies.
Rob's photographic career is marked by his extensive work with prominent organisations such as Ontario Tourism, Parks Canada, and Ontario Parks. His evocative landscape and wilderness images have graced the covers of guides, calendars, and magazines, and have been featured in national advertising campaigns.
His passion for remote and wild places has taken him on expeditions to some of the most breathtaking and challenging environments on Earth. For over a decade, he has served as an expedition photographer and photographer in residence, exploring Antarctica, the Arctic, Northern Quebec, the Northwest Territories, and Greenland. For eight of those years, he worked with One Ocean Expeditions, a role that not only involved photography but also required him to become adept at various ship-related tasks, including driving a Zodiac!
Rob is also a co-author of "An Artist's and Photographer's Guide to Wild Ontario," a comprehensive guide to the best locations in Ontario for wilderness and wildlife art. His work has also been published in in-flight magazines for Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines, and he has collaborated with Qantas Airlines to promote Canadian destinations.
Awards & achievements:
In October 2012, Rob was nominated and elected into the College of Fellows of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. More recently, he was selected to be an ambassador for the society.
He is the recipient of a Northern Lights Award from the Canadian Tourism Commission.
He received the Best Travel Photography Award from the Ontario Tourism Summit.
In 2016, The Globe and Mail and Lexus profiled him as one of ten featured artists.
