About the event:

Have you ever seen a stunning full moon, grabbed your camera and captured what turned out to be just a small, over-exposed white blob in a black sky?

Photographing the moon in the landscape is much harder than it looks. It requires a specific balance of exposure, focal length, and timing. In this fascinating session, Robert Harvey joins us to explain exactly how to tackle these challenges.

Using examples from across Britain, Robert will guide us through the essential planning and techniques required to get the shot. But this goes deeper than just camera settings - he will also explore the opportunities created by monthly, annual and longer lunar cycles.

We will even look at the phenomenon of the Major Lunar Standstill and ask: was it significant to the builders of Neolithic monuments 5,000 years ago?

This is a super blend of technical skill and historical information.

You Will Learn:

  • Technical Aspects: How to balance exposure between a bright moon and a dark landscape.

  • The Planning Phase: Understanding lunar cycles to predict exactly where the moon will be.

  • Composition: How to integrate the moon into the landscape rather than just photographing the sky.

  • History: A look at the Major Lunar Standstill and its connection to Neolithic monuments.

From Mark:

Robert has a wonderful ability to combine technical photography skills with genuine storytelling. I know many of us struggle with moon photography - it is one of those subjects that seems easy until you try it! Robert is the perfect guide to help us understand the planning involved so we can head out with confidence the next time the conditions are right.

This session will be recorded and available for to watch for four weeks after the event.
