About the event:

Paul is someone who has been requested so often on Camversation by various members of the community and speakers alike! It's a real pleasure to bring him to the community and share his beautiful photography with everyone.

Mark’s Personal Note: I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Paul Gallagher to Camversation. If you follow the world of landscape photography, you’ll know that Paul is a true master of the craft. With over 40 years of experience and a Fellowship with the Royal Photographic Society, his work is quite simply stunning.

What I love about Paul is that he isn't just a great photographer; he is a fantastic educator who believes the landscape isn't something to be 'captured,' but 'gracefully witnessed.' This series is going to be a wonderful mix of inspiration, adventure, and practical editing techniques that are surprisingly simple to master.

About The Series

Join us for a comprehensive three-part journey into the world of monochrome with one of the UK's leading landscape photographers.

17th Dec 2025 Part 1: The Power of Black and White

Paul will take us on a journey through his forty-year career, sharing the adventures behind his most captivating images. From the Great Plains of America to the mountains of China, and from the Highlands of Iceland to the frozen Arctic, you will learn how Paul sees in black and white. This session is all about the art of composition and understanding how to translate the world before you into timeless monochrome.

16th Feb 2026 Part 2: The Art of Editing (Simpler Than You Think)

Many of us overcomplicate black and white processing. In this session, Paul shares his up-to-date editing workflow - and it is much simpler than you might imagine. You will watch over his shoulder as he takes raw colour camera files and evolves them into beautiful, timeless images. This is a great opportunity to unlearn bad habits and streamline your own processing.

23rd Feb 2026 Part 3: Infrared

Infrared is a genre Paul has mastered, but with a twist. Rather than the harsh, high-contrast blacks and whites often associated with this style, Paul has developed a technique that creates subtle and ethereal results. He will walk us through his unique approach to this invisible spectrum, showing you how to create dreamlike, delicate imagery.

You Will Learn:

  • The Art of Seeing: How to visualise a landscape in black and white before you even press the shutter.

  • Simplified Editing: How to create stunning monochrome conversions without getting bogged down in complex Photoshop layers.

  • The Infrared Difference: How to move away from harsh contrast and create soft, ethereal infrared landscapes.

  • Global Inspiration: Insights from shooting in some of the most challenging and beautiful locations on Earth.
