About the talk:
Making Your Own Textures to Enhance Your Images
Have you ever looked at an image and wondered what makes it truly stand out? What gives it that sense of completeness or artistic flair?
Often, the answer is the addition of a texture.
A texture can add a beautiful, painterly feel to your work. It can hide a distracting background, add mood to a flat scene, or simply add some sparkle and pizzazz to your final image.
In this session, Maryellen Stone will guide us through the creative process of making our own unique textures to elevate our photography.
Creating your own textures allows you to build a personal library of assets that are completely unique to your style. As a bonus, it also ensures that if you do enter competitions, every part of your image is 100% your own work.
What We Will Cover
We will explore three distinct methods for creating textures:
In Camera: How to capture textures using your DSLR, Mirrorless camera, or even your mobile phone while you are out shooting.
Digital Creation: Using programmes and apps to manipulate existing photos or create brand new assets from digital scratch.
The Handmade Approach: Good old fashioned play time! We will use a variety of physical materials to create textures by hand (it is too much fun to leave just to the children).
The Editing Workflow
Once we have created our library of textures, Maryellen will discuss how to choose the right one for your specific image.
We will then move into Photoshop to look at how to blend them seamlessly. While a working knowledge of Layers, Layer Masks, and Blend Modes is helpful, it is not strictly required. Maryellen will show you how she uses these tools to take her images to the next level.
