Camversation Guides

Camversation is always moving forwards. We try new things and we listen to what you ask us for.

A lot of you asked for the same thing: something written down to go back to. So after months of work behind the scenes, I am pleased as punch to share the Camversation guides. We make them ourselves, to one consistent design, to help you learn and understand what was taught and to keep it.

Rather than describe them, here is one in full:

Janet Miles’s guide to Capturing Mood, Part 2: Multiple Exposures, Brushes and Textures.

What is inside a guide?

  • Every step, in order with recording times, so you can go straight to that moment, watch, pause and try it on your own pictures.

  • Questions from the live workshop with the answers.

  • 'New to this' and 'Going further' notes, so the guide works whether you are starting out or have been at it for years.

  • A one-page summary & glossary.

"A super companion piece to the talk. Very user friendly. I love the real time questions from the talk added in, and the "cheat sheets" in the back for going further and the one page recap. WELL WORTH THE PRICE!" — Lynn

The why, not only the how:

Every step explains why the presenter did it, in their own words wherever we can. Knowing the reason is what lets you use a technique on your own photographs, not only on theirs.

"I particularly like how you've broken down the techniques and included the reasoning behind them rather than just the steps." — Sandra Dann, presenter

Made to sit beside the recording:

Open the guide, start the recording and follow along. Watch a step, pause, try it, then carry on. Each step tells you where it starts in the recording, so you can always find your place again.

Not everyone learns best from watching. If you like to see something written down before it sinks in, a guide is made for you. The same structure and design runs through every guide. Once you have used one, you know your way around the next.

How you get one:

When you book. If a workshop has a guide, you will see a guide ticket alongside the standard ticket, for a few pounds more. After the workshop. Guides are £8 each.

Your guide usually arrives two or three days after the session, while it is still fresh in your memory!

"I don't know how you've managed to get them ready so quickly after the talk. I'm so grateful as it will make a huge difference in learning new skills." — Fi

What people said

"Love the guides and step by step. They are great." — Sue, Ontario

"They are fabulous!" — Sharon, Elk, California

"Just read mine. It's fantastic." — Lynn, Redcar

"Guide is brilliant. Thank you" — Mo, Hertfordshire

Questions:

Do I need the recording as well? It works best with it. Every step is timed to the recording, so you can watch, pause and follow along. The guide also makes sense read on its own, as a reference to come back to.

Can I print it? Yes. It is an A4 PDF, made to be printed and kept.

Do I need the presenter's files? No. Unless a guide says otherwise, every step is written to work on pictures of your own.

Some presenters share their own notes. Is this the same thing? No. Where a presenter shares their own notes, you get those too. A guide is written to stand on its own, so you have everything you need from the workshop in one place either way.

Who makes them? We do, at Camversation, from the recording of each session. Every step, setting and question comes from what the presenter said and showed.

Does every workshop have one? Not yet. They are available for some of our workshops, and more are being added as the sessions happen.
