Dancing Flowers [Studio Recording] with Polina Plotnikova

THIS IS TO RENT THIS SERIES, NOT DOWNLOAD. YOU CAN RENT AND WATCH FOR 12 MONTHS.

Transform static still life into painterly poetry. Join multi-award-winning photographer Polina Plotnikova for an in-depth guide to her signature Dancing Flowers technique.

In this 90-minute studio workshop, Polina provides a practical, hands-on tutorial. She deconstructs the logic behind her ethereal images, teaching you how to step away from clinical sharpness and embrace the fluidity of painting with your camera.

Filmed in a studio using a multi-camera setup, this workshop shows the process: from the initial artistic vision to the final pixel polish.

The Workshop Journey

Total Run Time: Approx. 90 Minutes

  • Comprehensive Introduction: Polina shares the artistic vision and ballet-inspired philosophy behind her portfolio. Learn the history of the technique and how to visualise the dance before you even pick up the camera.

  • The Studio Recording (Setups & Prep): Step inside the studio environment. Polina demonstrates the physical setup required, including the use of black velvet backgrounds and the placement of continuous lighting, snoods, and grids.

  • Mastering the Movement: The multi-camera coverage allows you to watch over Polina's shoulder. She demonstrates her physical techniques: panning, waving, spirals, and the seizure micro-shake: while explaining the Opposite Side rule for frame management.

  • In-Camera Artistry: Guidance on navigating Multiple Exposure settings and selecting Blend Modes (Additive vs. Bright) to stack textures and light directly on your sensor.

  • Post-Production & Editing: Learn how to bring your results to life. This section includes a workflow for replicating the effect in Photoshop (useful for Sony users or those without multi-exposure features) and Polina’s logic for enhancing contrast, texture, and mood.

Why This Workshop?

  • Multi-Camera Setup: The recording uses multiple angles to show Polina, her technique profile, and her camera screen simultaneously.

  • 12-Month Access: Learn at your own pace with unlimited on-demand access for one full year.

  • The Opposite Side Rule: Master the physics of moving the camera to keep your subject positioned within the frame.

What You Will Need

  • A camera capable of Manual Mode (Multiple Exposure capability is useful, but a Photoshop workaround is included).

  • A black background (ideally velvet).

  • A willingness to experiment and embrace liquid movement.

About Polina Plotnikova

Polina describes herself firmly as a picture maker rather than a picture taker. While she appreciates the documentary approach she is driven by the elusive image in her mind's eye aiming to convey feelings and emotions rather than mere statements of fact.

Holding FRPS and EFIAP distinctions Polina has accumulated impressive accolades including eight Gold and Silver Gilt medals at RHS photography competitions. She is a category winner of the Food Photographer of The Year competition has earned various distinctions at the International Garden Photographer of The Year competitions and holds multiple medals from various Photography Salons. She is also a proud member of the Arena Photographers group.

A self-described studio photographer Polina constructs her images mentally first visualising composition colour and lighting before picking up the camera. She approaches flower photography much like portraiture attempting to unlock the unique mood and character of each plant. Her goal is to lift a flower from its typical setting and place it into an indeterminate space where its beauty can be seen in its absolute purity.
