Resource pack: Abstracts, backgrounds and beyond with Stan Farrow

Stan Farrow’s 'Abstracts, Backgrounds & Beyond' Resource Pack

A toolkit to practice, play and follow along with Stan’s creative style.

One of the things we love most about Stan Farrow is his willingness to share not just his finished art, but the ingredients behind it. After his workshop sessions, many of you asked how you could get your hands on the textures and elements Stan uses to create his distinctive images.

In response, Stan has opened up his personal digital archives to provide a collection of assets used in his own workflow.

What’s Inside Your Resource Pack:

This is a collection of high-resolution digital assets and guides that you can download and keep forever. It is designed to help you move from watching to doing by providing the exact files Stan used in his demonstrations.

  • Architectural & Abstract Assets: A collection of architectural 'flats' and building elements to practice the multi-exposure techniques from Part 1.

  • Natural & Found Subjects: High-resolution digital versions of Stan’s own subjects, including a Guillemot skull and feathers, starfish, and cow parsley silhouettes.

  • Usable Textures & Overlays: A selection of overlays including birds in flight, moon phases, clock faces, and textures like 'grot' and watercolour edges to add depth to your composites.

  • Historical Scripts & Maps: Scans of Latin script, Japanese calligraphy, and legal documents, along with nautical charts and maps of Loch Etive and old cities.

  • Visual Reference Guides (Slides): JPEG copies of Stan’s presentation slides from both sessions, including his 'Board Design' guides and visual catalogues of his background styles (Categories A, C, D, and E).

  • The 'Orton Effect' & Glow Guide: Stan has included his personal 'Soft Blur or Glow' notes, providing a basic outline on achieving the 'Orton Effect' a key technique for creating a soft, ethereal glow in your work.

  • Creative Lists & Notes: PDF guides featuring Stan’s 'List of Evocative Titles' and 'Possible Subjects' to help kickstart your next creative piece.

Why Grab This Pack?

We know that sometimes the hardest part of creative editing is finding the right materials to start with. This pack removes that barrier.

Whether you want to practice your blending modes or experiment with the digital elements from the sessions, this toolkit gives you what you need to practice and play with the techniques Stan shared. I’ve seen the work Stan puts into these resources - the quality is excellent. It’s like having a bit of Stan’s studio right there on your hard drive.

A Wonderful Cause

As with his workshop, Stan has very generously requested that all proceeds from this resource pack go directly to the MS Society.

By adding these tools to your creative kit you aren't just improving your photography - you’re helping our community continue its support for a cause very close to Stan's heart.
