It is like telling a painter they must have really good paintbrushes because their paintings are amazing.

We have all been there. You stand in front of a spectacular sunrise or a breathtaking landscape. The light is perfect. You take the shot. But when you get home the image looks flat. It looks like a postcard but it does not feel like the moment you experienced.

What is this session about?

In this 75 minute recording Rob Stimpson teaches you how to bridge the gap between what your eyes see and what your camera captures.

Moving beyond standard composition rules Rob explores the psychology of seeing. He explains why we often fail to capture the emotion of a scene and provides practical tools to fix it. Whether you shoot landscapes wildlife or travel photography this session will challenge you to stop documenting the world and start interpreting it.

What Rob talks about:

  • The 60mm Epiphany: Why your brain sees differently than your wide angle lens and how to fix the disconnect.

  • The Postcard Trap: How to avoid taking the same generic shot as everyone else and find your own unique angle.

  • Visual Tension: Practical techniques to hold a viewer's attention for more than 3 seconds.

  • The Wet Camera Philosophy: The famous story of why an $80,000 camera setup in Antarctica could not buy vision.

  • Composition and Narrative: How to use The Art of Exclusion to clear the clutter and tell a clearer story.
