Susanna Euston's own slides from part one of The Magic of Black & White, her 2026 three-part series, presented live to our community on 7 September.
 
Her motto is on page two: colour is about colour, black and white is about everything else.
 
The part people talked about afterwards was her opening. Newborns have immature cones, so for the first five or six months a baby sees only light, dark and grey. Contrast comes first and colour is layered on later. Black and white is not a treatment applied to a photograph. It is the base your vision is built on.
